Clinic for Internal Medicine
In the field of infectiology, we deal with the outpatient and inpatient prevention, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic infectious diseases.
In order to guarantee you the best possible protection against nosocomial infections during your stay in hospital, the infectiology team, the hospital hygiene team, the internal hygiene committee and the hospital hygiene officers in the clinics work closely together. We are there for you to clarify, advise and treat acute and chronic infectious diseases in the outpatient and inpatient areas.
Our services in infectiology
- Foreign body-associated infections (orthopaedics, cardiology, urology)
- Hospital hygiene issues such as colonisation with resistant bacteria and preoperative preventive measures to prevent infections (staphylococcal eradication)
- Antibiotic therapies, especially in the case of particular resistance of diagnosed bacteria
- Diseases transmitted by ticks
- COVID-19 infections
Our specialist, PD Dr med. Yvonne Achermann, is available for on-site consultations and to advise you by telephone on other infectiological questions.
Orthopaedic infections
The treatment of orthopaedic infections is another speciality that we offer at Zollikerberg Hospital. This therapy consists of surgical intervention and prolonged antibiotic therapy, which is discussed in an interdisciplinary collaboration with microbiologists and orthopaedists. Our treatment concept also includes additional counselling on local antibiotic therapies. We work closely with the orthopaedists at Zollikerberg Hospital and the Schulthess Clinic in Zurich.
Infection prevention and hospital hygiene
Our hospital hygiene teams and the internal hygiene committee work closely with the hospital hygiene officers in the clinics to develop and implement processes that ensure the best possible protection against hospital infections.Zollikerberg Hospital follows all the recommended guidelines of the FOPH (Federal Office of Public Health), the SGSH (Swiss Society for Hospital Hygiene) and the RKI (Robert Koch Institute Berlin).
Our hospital hygiene team also regularly trains all professional groups who come into contact with patients on the relevant topics:
- Preparation of equipment/materials
- Clothing regulations
- disinfection
- waste disposal
- hand hygiene
- Prevention of stab wounds
- Isolation
To ensure the high quality of our services, we carry out regular quality controls. These include ventilation checks, microbiological water checks and the maintenance of reprocessing equipment to ensure an optimal environment for our activities. We also attach great importance to quality measurement by regularly participating in the "Swissnoso/ANQ post-operative wound infections" survey.
The hospital's internal hygiene committee adopts standards and work instructions that the hospital hygiene team has drawn up with the involvement of the clinics. The hygiene committee also discusses the results of the relevant quality measurements and derives recommendations for the hospital management.
