Tour of the maternity centre

Would you like to have your baby at Zollikerberg Hospital? Our qualified nurse will take you through the maternity ward at Zollikerberg Hospital. Competent nurses and breastfeeding counsellors will support you during the first few days with your newborn baby.

Postpartum and recovery after the birth

The first few days after the birth are a valuable time of arrival, recovery and familiarisation. In our maternity centre, we create a calm and secure environment in which you and your baby receive the best possible care.

Our concept: all-round care for mother and child

Our experienced nursing staff and midwives will accompany you on your individual journey into motherhood. We attach great importance to sensitive and professional care that is tailored to your personal needs.

Bonding and rooming-in

Immediately after the birth, we encourage bonding by placing your newborn baby naked on your chest. This first intensive skin-to-skin contact helps your child to get used to the new environment, strengthens their basic trust and makes it easier to start breastfeeding.

Rooming-in is a matter of course for us: your baby stays with you day and night. This gives you enough time to get to know each other, understand your child's signals and build a strong parent-child bond. If you need a break, we are always there to support you.

Personalised care and expertise for a safe start

Our nursing staff and breastfeeding counsellors will support you in the first few days after the birth:

  • Assistance with breastfeeding and feeding your baby
  • Tips on caring for and handling your newborn baby
  • Answers to all your questions about the postpartum period
  • Support for your carer to make the most of your time together

The transition from hospital to home can be exciting and it is completely normal for questions or uncertainties to arise. We have put together some helpful recommendations in a video to help you and your newborn baby settle into your new everyday life in the best possible way.

Aftercare by a midwife

After the birth, an experienced midwife will be at your side at home to provide you with personalised support and help you find your feet in your new life situation.

Your benefits of aftercare:

  • Personalised support: answers to questions about the care, nutrition and development of your newborn baby.
  • Breastfeeding counselling and milk production: Help with breastfeeding or alternative feeding methods.
  • Health checks for mother and child: Checks on uterine involution, wound healing and your baby's weight progress.
  • Assistance with uncertainties: Advice on baby care, sleeping patterns and parent-child bonding.

Up to eight weeks after the birth, you can take advantage of ten to 16 home visits by a midwife. These visits help you to gain confidence in dealing with your newborn and enable you to recognise any challenges at an early stage. If you wish, follow-up care can be provided by one of our independent midwives.
