Anita - Between reception, team management and everyday family life

Anita works at our reception with a 70% workload - but her role goes far beyond answering the phone and shift work. As deputy manager, she combines responsibility, closeness to the team and the challenge of balancing family and career. In this interview, she explains how she manages this balancing act, what drives her and how leadership can work from the centre of the team.
You work as deputy manager, but also work regular shifts - how do you experience this dual role?
The dual role allows me to be present both as a team member and as deputy manager. This allows me to experience everyday life together with the employees, stay close to their concerns and at the same time promote good cooperation on an equal footing.
How do you reconcile your duties as a mother and your commitment to the team - what helps you?
As a mum and as part of the reception team, what helps me most is a positive attitude, which gives me the energy to lend a hand everywhere. Both at home with my husband and my mum and at work, I experience a strong team that supports me and makes a lot of things easier.
What do you find special about working together in shared representation?
In shared deputising, we benefit from the fact that we complement each other perfectly. While he works in a very structured way, I have a more positive, spontaneous approach. This mix makes our collaboration versatile and enriching. This creates an open, motivating working atmosphere from which the entire team benefits.
You have been part of the reception team for many years - how has your view of the work changed as a result of your management responsibilities?
Having management responsibility has given me a new perspective on the work and I now see the processes even more consciously. I was able to initiate many changes and actively help shape processes.
What attitude do you pass on to new colleagues who become part of the reception team?
I advise new colleagues to approach the job with positive energy and to enjoy their work. Multitasking is simply part of the job and it helps to always remain friendly and open. It is also important to appreciate the team spirit and actively help shape the collaboration. Anyone who approaches reception with enthusiasm will find the work varied and rewarding.
