Why the gardener acts diaconal with a greeting and what this has to do with the Zollikerberg health centre.
The gardener's spontaneous greeting is still ringing in the visitor's ears after she has stepped off the Forch railway into our world. It's her first experience with us - and it's a good one.
In our Zollikerberg World of Health, people come together for a wide variety of reasons. When we walk through the park or the corridors and are greeted in a friendly manner, it feels pleasant. It does something to us, we feel noticed, we gain trust. This approachable attitude is part of our culture. We show closeness and goodwill with a greeting. A simple gesture with a positive effect.
Our Lunch&Learn took place on 27 June with the former head of the institute, Heinz Rüegger. He spoke about diakonia and its importance for our foundation and the Zollikerberg Healthcare Centre. He translated diaconia as "helping action in a social context". He highlighted key elements of our mission statement:
- Respect for the dignity of every person
- Holistic perception: physical, mental, psychological, social, cultural and spiritual
- Combining professional expertise and human care
- Taking the limits of human life and health seriously
- Promoting a culture of differentiated ethical judgement
This short lecture inspired us and made us realise once again that even small actions have a major impact on our well-being. Our values are our common denominators. We all characterise our helping actions and help shape our environment.
With this in mind, we look forward to welcoming you to our Zollikerberg World of Health.
