Clinic for Internal Medicine

In oncology, we take the time to thoroughly examine patients suspected of having cancer. Together with our experienced radiologists, surgeons, gynaecologists and internists, we make an interdisciplinary diagnosis.

Customised diagnostics for your treatment strategy

We start with a thorough diagnosis, which includes a physical examination, laboratory tests, imaging procedures (radiology) and histological examinations (cytology or histology). Our aim is to characterise the nature and spread of the tumour disease as precisely as possible. This precise assessment enables us to work with you to plan optimal and customised treatment and thus offer you the best possible care.

Cancer treatment with expertise and care

Treatment can aim to remove or destroy the entire tumour tissue in order to achieve curative therapy, i.e. a cure or cure. At Zollikerberg Hospital, we can draw on the expertise of our experienced surgeons and gynaecologists.

Tumour diseases often also require medical therapies. In these cases, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or hormone therapy as well as modern, targeted drugs are used. Together, we select the best possible therapy options to meet your needs.

Our interdisciplinary tumour board

As oncological surgeons, we meet regularly with various specialists in radiotherapy to discuss and optimally prepare the operations together with Dr Basil Bättig, Head of Oncology and FMH Medical Oncology.

If a cure is no longer possible, we focus on alleviating the patient's suffering (palliation). We draw up an individualised treatment plan with the help of our specialists at the hospital. In addition to the professional assessment, we focus on the patient as a person in their specific life situation.

Depending on the disease situation, we may consider medical therapies, radiotherapy or further operations. If treatment with medication (chemotherapy) is possible, we often make this possible on an outpatient basis. We are ideally equipped for inpatient stays at Zollikerberg Hospital.

For radiotherapy, we work together with Zurich University Hospital, Zurich City Hospital or the Hirslanden Clinic, depending on the patient's wishes.

Palliation

When treatment options have been exhausted, we concentrate on providing people at the end of their lives with dignified, professional and comprehensive care. During this sensitive phase, our oncologists and nursing staff are in close contact with you and your relatives.
