Coordinated, efficient, healthy. How a national healthcare law will help to optimise rather than maximise the healthcare system of the future
August 21, 2024
Developments in the Swiss healthcare system, in particular the constant rise in costs, are increasingly preoccupying people. However, opinions differ widely on what sustainable solutions could look like for a problem that is now at the top of the concern barometer. For some, it is clear that there is a lack of control and coordination in the federalist Swiss system, which leads to a fragmentation of responsibilities and unclear accountability. This is one of the reasons why the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) reintroduced the proposal to draw up a national healthcare law and a corresponding constitutional article in May of this year. What sounds like an abstract intervention would have tangible consequences in reality. In this episode of Morgen:Rapport, long-standing SAMS President and prominent intensive care physician Daniel Scheidegger explains why these would be in favour of patients and healthcare professionals and what all this has to do with the garage around the corner. The interview is conducted by Jean-Daniel Strub, ethicist at Gesundheitswelt Zollikerberg.
