During a detailed consultation, we will explain the entire procedure to you and will be happy to take the time to answer your questions. Please refrain from smoking for a fortnight before the operation and from taking painkillers, which can affect blood clotting.

The breast reduction is performed under a short general anaesthetic. After the excess tissue has been removed, the nipples are adjusted to their new position and, if necessary, the areola can be reduced in size. Drains are usually not necessary. Finally, we apply a suitable bra to minimise swelling.

The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis. Your breasts will be taut for a few days after the procedure. You will be given a special bra to support your breasts during this time. Pain can be easily controlled with normal painkillers. The stitches dissolve themselves. The scars are firm and slightly reddened at the beginning. You can resume light activities after just a few days. The swelling persists for a period of four to eight weeks. The breasts are often very sensitive during this phase. After about three months, your breasts will take on their final shape and size. The scars usually fade after about six to nine months.

Acute complications are extremely rare. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are certain risks, including bleeding, infection or wound healing disorders. In some cases, there may be temporary hypersensitivity or numbness of the nipples, which normalises over time. In rare cases, the ability to breastfeed may be impaired. We will discuss possible risks in detail during our personal consultation.

If the discomfort caused by the oversized breasts is severe, we can ask the health insurance company to cover the costs. This application will be reviewed by the insurance company's medical service.
