Kidney stone consultation (nephrolithiasis)

Kidney stones are hard, crystalline deposits that form in the kidneys and affect up to 10 per cent of the population in the course of their lives. They form when certain substances such as calcium, oxalate or uric acid are present in the urine in too high a concentration and crystallise. If kidney stones migrate into the ureter, they can cause severe colic-like pain and make urological treatment necessary. In addition to drinking and eating habits, metabolic disorders can also be the cause. In the nephrology kidney stone consultation, a targeted clarification is carried out, particularly in the case of recurring or early-onset kidney stones, in order to recognise the causes and reduce the risk of new stone formation.
